Find Salem County Released Inmates

Salem County released inmates can be traced through county release records, state corrections history, court dispositions, and post-release supervision records. A search for Salem County released inmates should begin with the agency that last held the person. County jail release and state prison discharge are not the same event. Salem County released inmates may return to the community, move to another jail, enter state custody, or pass to another authority. The right released inmate search therefore matches the person, booking, releasing agency, and recorded release date before drawing a conclusion.

Understanding Salem County Releases

A release closes one custody episode. It does not always mean that a person went home. The Salem County Correctional Facility holds adults under local, state, and federal authority, so the endpoint depends on the order, sentence, warrant, or hold that controlled the booking. A person may leave on bond, after time served, after dismissal, or under a court release order. Another person may leave Salem County custody only because the New Jersey Department of Corrections, another county, a federal authority, or immigration officials took custody. The county record must be read with that distinction in mind.

The official Salem inmate lookup is unusually useful after release because it has an “Include released inmates” option. Its Release Date is positive evidence that the Salem booking ended. The entry does not state, by itself, that all confinement ended. A transfer can produce the same county endpoint. Check the receiving system whenever the record or known court history points to another authority.

Discharge
The formal end of a custody term or period of supervision.
Time served
A sentence satisfied by time already spent in custody.
Detainer
A request or order that another authority take or keep custody.
Parole
Conditional release from prison under State Parole Board supervision.

Salem County Release Paths

The recorded event identifies which search should come next. Bond, release on conditions, dismissal, acquittal, or a satisfied county sentence may end local confinement and return the person to the community. Probation may begin or continue outside the jail. Parole, however, normally follows a prison term and belongs to the State Parole Board system. A transfer ends the Salem booking while custody continues elsewhere.

A roster disappearance proves none of these events. Search the released records and match the booking. For immediate uncertainty, the Sheriff’s contact page lists the correctional facility line. Ask whether the named Salem custody episode ended and whether a receiving authority is recorded.

Salem County Release Record Fields

The public result is a compact index. It ties a Release Date to an identity and a specific Salem County booking. That is stronger than noticing that a name is missing from a current list. Open the linked name and retain the booking identifiers before the public display changes. The site does not publish a retention period, so an older release may require a records request.

A fuller release or discharge record may contain the exact time, release code, authority, property receipt, account statement, and transfer destination. Those details are not promised on the public result. Request the existing entries. Do not ask the custodian to explain why a judge or agency acted, because the Open Public Records Act requires access to records rather than answers to new questions.

Request Salem County Release Records

Use the Salem County OPRA page and its official form when the online result is incomplete, old, or ambiguous. Identify the person and custody episode as narrowly as possible. The form accepts pickup, mail, inspection, fax, or email delivery and asks for a maximum authorized cost. Paper copies are listed at $0.05 for letter pages and $0.07 for legal pages. Media, postage, delivery, or a lawful special-service charge may add cost.

  1. Record the full name, date of birth, Booking Number, Permanent ID, facility, and likely date range.
  2. Ask for the booking and commitment entries, release or discharge entry, recorded date and time, release type, and receiving authority if maintained.
  3. Add the property inventory, receipt, final account statement if disclosable, and any correction to the Release Date when those records matter.
  4. Send the form to opra.request@salemcountynj.gov or use the delivery route printed on the form.
  5. Keep the receipt. The county directs requesters to follow up if no email receipt arrives within 24 business hours.

For a complete noncommercial request involving a currently available record, current OPRA generally calls for access as soon as possible and no later than seven business days. Stored records or other statutory conditions may take more time with notice. Redaction can protect exempt medical, victim, juvenile, investigative, or security information while leaving other release data available.

Salem Release Records Under OPRA

New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., supplies the county records route. The Government Records Council’s current text reflects the amendments effective in 2024. OPRA does not make all jail material public. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, protected personal, security-sensitive, and other exempt information remains restricted. A custodian may release part of a record and redact the protected fields.

Important: Public web retention and agency record retention differ. Salem’s released-person switch proves that some past entries remain online, but no public page promises how long.

NJDOC has a separate display rule. Its public offender record generally leaves the web one year after the custodial term completes, except records involving continuing Community Supervision for Life or Parole Supervision for Life. An absent older state result is therefore not proof that no state custody or discharge occurred. Use the State OPRA route for an older NJDOC history.

Note: A sealed or expunged result may vanish from ordinary searches even though a person once had a custody record.

Property After Salem County Release

SCCF confirms that each confined person has a personal account used for commissary, telephone, and tablet activity. Its public pages do not say how money, property, or identification is returned when Salem County custody ends. Do not assume a payment method, pickup door, mailing rule, or unclaimed-property deadline. The precise route is a focused OPRA request for the policy, inventory, receipt, final account statement, and any release document used in that booking.

NJDOC follows a distinct state process. Its Fair Release and Reentry Act information says a state prisoner’s release portfolio includes temporary photo identification and final discharge paperwork. It can also include a medical summary, final trust-account statement or balance, and a warrant or detainer notice where applicable. That state portfolio should not be promised for a person leaving SCCF after a county case.

For a person seeking proof of their own state discharge, the release portfolio is the first source. Another requester should use the correct county or state records process and expect lawful redactions.

Salem Release Records and Expungement

An expungement is the extraction and sealing of qualifying records from ordinary public access. It can cover records tied to arrest, detention, trial, and disposition. Eligibility is not governed by one universal waiting period. Record type, outcome, conviction history, clean-slate rules, and excluded offenses all matter. Use the New Jersey Courts expungement process for current eligibility and filing instructions.

Salem has a dedicated Criminal Division expungement contact at the county courthouse. A documented clinic held in February 2025 involved Rutgers, South Jersey Legal Services, the Public Defender, and local prosecutor offices, and Rutgers reported help for more than 55 people. That event is historical. It is not a promise of a current clinic. The court’s present self-help route should come first.

A no-result after an expungement cannot prove that no arrest or confinement ever occurred. If an official Salem record is wrong rather than sealed, request the correction or amendment history from the agency maintaining it.

Search Salem County Released Inmates

Begin with the custody last known. The county lookup, NJDOC, VINE, BOP, ICE, and court systems cover different events. Use a strong identifier whenever possible. Names can be misspelled, reversed, hyphenated, or shared by more than one person. A DOB, booking number, SBI number, federal register number, or A-number helps prevent a false match.

  1. For SCCF, open the official IML, enter the name and DOB or an identifier, and select “Include released inmates.”
  2. Read Release Date as the endpoint of that booking. Save the Booking Number and Permanent ID.
  3. If transfer to state custody is possible, search NJDOC for admission history, current facility, and Date Out-of-Custody.
  4. Check the court case for the judgment, dismissal, sentence, probation order, or later discharge.
  5. Use VINELink for a participating agency status event and future alert, not as a permanent archive.
  6. Use BOP, ICE ODLS, or the federal docket when federal or immigration custody may control.
  7. Request the county release entry and receiving authority if the online trail does not answer the question.
Important: A released person often leaves a current roster. A missing current entry can also mean transfer, a name mismatch, or a display limit.

The county does not publish a chronological daily feed. The Released Last 24 Hours process therefore checks a named person’s Release Date rather than claiming to show everyone released that day.

Salem County Recent Release Limits

Salem publishes a named-person search, not a separate list for the last day or three days. Check “Include released inmates,” open the matching record, and compare its Release Date with the dates at issue. Results show ten entries per page with pagination. The public interface states no refresh schedule and no archive period. A just-processed event may therefore require a call to SCCF.

The Sheriff’s official navigation has no jail-information mobile app or mobile recent-release product. Its Facebook link is not a systematic release roster. If a date-range list is needed, ask under OPRA for an existing machine-readable report or release entries recorded between specified dates. OPRA does not require the county to create a new report.

Note: Never describe the Salem IML as a 24-hour or 72-hour feed; it is a person search with released records included.

Salem Release Supervision and Reentry

Parole and probation are separate. The New Jersey State Parole Board administers parole after prison custody. Judiciary probation follows a court sentence and may exist without an NJDOC record. New Jersey has no public statewide parolee-only or probationer-only name locator. For parole, search NJDOC first and then contact the Board’s Division of Release. For probation, start with the Salem criminal case and the Judiciary Criminal Division.

Salem also has a concrete local reentry layer. County records show acceptance of FY2026 NJDOC County Reentry Coordinator funding. SCCF publishes treatment, education, financial and release-planning, and community-alternative programs, including medication-assisted treatment, counseling, GED services, and an Academic Career Re-Entry Opportunity program. These programs support transition but do not prove that any named person completed a program or was released.

The Salem County parole and probation reference separates the verification steps and explains the district-office caution.

Salem Release Alerts and Handoffs

New Jersey VINELink checks one person in a participating reporting agency and can provide release or custody-change notifications. Open the correct record, confirm the facility and identity, then register for an event offered by that agency. Phone alerts use a private four-digit PIN to confirm receipt. A “released” event ends the reporting custody event. It does not clear another hold.

Federal custody uses different tools. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. A past release date with no facility means the person left BOP custody on that date. “IN TRANSIT” remains custody, and a future date can change. USMS pretrial custody may require the federal docket and the holding facility because USMS has no comparable public locator.

Does Salem Release Mean ICE Custody?

Salem’s IML accepts an ICE Number, and SCCF’s mission includes federal-law commitments. Historic ICE and USMS agreements add context, but they do not prove a current contract or current detainee population. A county Release Date may still mark a handoff instead of community release.

If the county record identifies immigration transfer, check ICE ODLS by A-number and country of birth or by biographical details. Request the receiving authority when the online county result does not show it. A no-result in ODLS can have several causes, so the Salem transfer entry remains important.

Where Salem Release Records Persist

The court record may remain after a brief jail display ends. PROMIS/Gavel and the Salem Criminal Records Room can supply a judgment, sentence, dismissal, amended order, probation discharge, or other disposition. That record explains legal authority. It does not establish the minute that SCCF completed physical release processing. Pair the court order with the jail record.

The Salem Criminal Records Room is at 92 Market Street, Salem, with telephone 856-878-5050 ext. 15850. Municipal cases remain with the appropriate municipal court, not automatically with Salem City simply because it is the county seat.

Salem County Release Facility

The facility map contains one adult jail: Salem County Correctional Facility, operated by the Sheriff’s Corrections Division at 125 Cemetery Road in Woodstown. No NJDOC prison was verified within Salem County. Nearby state prisons in Cumberland County are not Salem facilities, even when a state record lists Salem as the County of Commitment.

A release from SCCF may lead to the community, NJDOC, another local authority, federal custody, or immigration custody. Confirm the recorded receiving authority whenever “Release Date” may reflect a handoff. No other adult facility page should be inferred from historic contracts or juvenile shared-service placements.

Is Salem County Jail Still Open?

SCCF remains active while South Jersey counties study regional corrections arrangements. A 2024 resolution concerned wetlands work “in facilitation of a Regional Jail.” That planning record is not a closure announcement.

County actions in 2026 include $7.2 million in SCCF improvements funded from Gloucester County. The planning and later shared investment describe an evolving regional corrections landscape. The live Sheriff corrections page and released-person lookup remain the authoritative current routes for Salem County custody and release records.
